That tradition of having his music and perspective passed on to new generations of hardcore kids will continue when, on Oct. His impact on the world of hardcore and its assorted sub-genres remains noticeable, as the now-legendary Title Fight tapped him to produce their first album, and the reunion shows his bands play continue to feel like vital contributions to the scene as opposed to pure victory laps. While running Some Records, he kept his finger on the pulse of new sounds and happily took up the role of producer for Hot Water Music’s landmark album No Division. Schreifels’ discography has become a testament to a musician, producer, and label owner who always found himself fascinated by what’s next while remaining reverent of his past. After helping define the sound of youth crew, he formed Quicksand, one of the bands that codified the sound of muscular, thoughtful post-hardcore in the ‘90s, before pushing that sound even further with Rival Schools in the 2000s. With Gorilla Biscuits’ debut album Start Today, Schreifels created the template for melodic hardcore the record would go on to become Revelation Records’ best-selling album. While he can claim to be a member of some of the scene’s most influential bands, such Gorilla Biscuits, Youth Of Today, Project X, and, albeit briefly, Warzone, he was never content to follow any sonic orthodoxy.
